TIFF is a very interesting ~SB~T~SB~agged ~SB~I~SB~mage ~SB~F~SB~ile ~SB~F~SB~ormat. Perhaps a bit too interesting╔ The format is very flexible and there is no guarantee that a TIFF file produced by one program can be read by another.
~SB~Opening TIFF Files:~SB~
Vision Lab should be able to open a wide range of TIFF files. If you have a scanner that produces a TIFF file format that Vision Lab cannot not read, and would really like to be able to open it with Vision Lab, then send me a few sample scans and I will ~SU~try~SU~ to add it to the list of supported TIFF formats. IBM (Intel) format TIFF files must be stored in TEXT files and have file names that end with ╥.TIF╙.
Vision Lab ~SU~cannot~SU~ open ThunderScan TIFF files.
~SB~Saving TIFF Files:~SB~
Vision Lab saves all TIFF files in an uncompressed Motorola format. The bit map and one bit deep pix maps will always be saved as black and white only. Pix maps with depths greater than one will be saved according to the TIFF preferences set.
The brightness and contrast settings of the gray map will be applied to the image when saving it as a TIFF file.

If ~SB~4 Bit (16 gray levels)~SB~ is selected the TIFF files saved from pix maps of depth greater than one will contain up to 16 levels of gray. If ~SB~8 Bit (256 gray levels)~SB~ is selected the TIFF files saved from pix maps of depth greater than one will contain up to 256 levels of gray.

TIFF files are easily exported to programs such as Ready, Set, Go!¬ and PageMaker¬. Up to 256 levels of gray scale are supported.
~SB~Cons:~SB~
Vision Lab TIFF files can only handle gray scale information. Any color information is lost when saving as a TIFF file. TIFF files are large because compression is not supported by Vision Lab. Due to the extreme flexibility of the file format certain programs may have trouble reading certain TIFF files.
